ASEAN Regional Workshop on Big Data for Enhancing Official Statistics 

In recognition of the potential use of Big Data in official statistics as new sources of data, ASEAN Statistics Division (ASEANstats) in collaboration with the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Indonesia is organizing ASEAN Regional Workshop on Big Data for Enhancing Official Statistics.

The series of workshop sessions is aimed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills relevant to Big Data utilization for enhancing official statistics.

 

This workshop is targeted at two groups of participants, namely Data Scientists and Data Engineers.

​

The workshop is being held in 3 parts as follows:
28 – 30 April 2021 [Part 1]

2 – 4 June 2021 [Part2]

6 – 8 July 2021 [Part 3]

Partnerships between Earth Observation and Statistical Communities for SDGs

On the 3rd March 2021, the first Special Session of the 13th Asia-Oceania Group on Earth Observations (AOGEO) Symposium was conducted online, highlighted growing linkages and the need for strengthening partnerships between the Earth Observation (EO) and statistical communities to support countries in delivering on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

 

Malaysia, represented by Ms Jamaliah Jaafar, Head of Core Team Big Data Analytics from the Department of Statistics Malaysia, was one of the panellists on the online session, titled “Linking Earth Observations with Statistical Community for SDG. Malaysia reported that GIS technology is widely used for the National Population and Housing Census 2020 and a study is underway for identifying living quarters in remote areas.
